I am the fashion engineer. Literally. Computer engineer by day, fashion designer by night. Since young, I was set out to become a fashion designer. However, supporting myself financially early on, with a first job packaging sweaters for pennies in a factory at the age of twelve, I understood the needs to be practical. Thus, I pursued computer engineering at Waterloo, graduating top of my class, meanwhile taking fashion classes at night. I then directed my fashion pursuits to NYC by taking on a tech job at an investment bank. In 2009, I left this job to enroll in an accelerated fashion design degree at the FIT NYC, where I proved my talents winning an Outstanding Design Award in my graduating class. Before returning to the tech-finance world in 2010, as a financial means to building my own label, I interned with designers Cynthia Rowley and Alexander Wang. In 2012, I showed a collection at the Emerging Designers Competition: EAST at Charleston Fashion Week, where in I won a finalist spot presenting in front of fashion giants such as Anne Slowey and Fern Mallis. In the near future, I plan to learn more about the business in hopes of launching my label 'Angela Sum'--trendy wearable clothes made from a fantasy brought into reality.
Fashion has been my romance, my love affair. A much needed fantasy from the harsher realities I faced early on in my hard knock life. I hope to be starting my own label soon. My goal is to create practical fashion that adds a sense of illusion to the everyday--trendy wearable clothes with a bit of intrigue and distinctiveness.
Warmest thx to all my supporters :)
